1. CALDRON: Refers to a large kettle or pot used for boiling or cooking. This metaphor of chopping people into pieces as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron vividly illustrates the leader’s brutal treatment of the people. (verse 3)
2. CONFOUNDED: Means to be perplexed, bewildered, or put to shame. It indicates that the false prophets and diviners will be deeply embarrassed and disoriented because their lack of true divine insight will be revealed. (verse 7)
3. DIVENERS: Refers to individuals who claim to have the ability to foretell the future or uncover hidden knowledge through supernatural means. (verse 7)
4. DIVINE: Means to practice divination or to claim to foretell future events as if receiving revelation from God, but falsely. (verse 6)
5. FLAY: Means to strip off the skin. (verse 3)
6. HEADS OF JACOB: Refers to the leaders and rulers of the people of Israel. (verse 1)
7. PLOWED: Means that the city of Zion (Jerusalem) will be treated like a field that is plowed and made ready for planting. This imagery signifies total destruction and desolation. (verse 12)
8. PLUCK: Used in a metaphorical sense to describe the severe oppression and exploitation by the leaders of Israel. (verse 2)
9. POT: Refers to a cooking vessel used for boiling or stewing. This metaphor paints a grim picture of the leaders’ brutal and in-humane treatment of the people. (verse 3)
10. PRINCES OF THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL: Refers to the leaders and officials of Israel. These were the individuals in positions of authority who were responsible for the governance and administration of the nation. (verse 1)
11. SEERS: Individuals who are supposed to have the ability to see and interpret divine visions or revelations. (verse 7)
12. VISION: Used to describe the divine messages or revelations that true prophets receive from God. These visions are meant to guide the people and provide insight into God's will. However, in this verse, Micah declares that the false prophets will no longer receive any visions. (verse 6)
